Description:
The Chunar fort which is around 50 kms from the city of Varanasi has a strategic location. This historic fort overlooking the River Ganges is a vantage point occupied since early times dating back to Vikramaditya of Ujjain 56 BC. The fort was attacked and occupied by Akbar and later by the Nawabs of Awadh. Finally the British captured it in the 18th century.
