Description:
Pragpur, which is around 200 kms from the capital of Himachal Pradesh Shimla, is certified as a Heritage village. This village situated in the Kangra district has buildings and palaces which are crumbling with the history that is quite ancient. The Kangra valley of Himachal is known as the valley of Kings and Pragpur has been the centre of such incidents. It is also believed that the Pandav stayed in these valleys during their period of exile. Its age-old and well-preserved architecture and cobbled streets has been declared a 'Heritage village'. Many of Himachal's forts, palaces and residences are privately owned, and naturally, the discretion of their use rests with their owners. According to history, its chief, in the late 16th or early 17th century, charged a band of learned men, le d by a Kuthiala Sood, to find a suitable place to commemorate Princess 'Prag' of his royal lineage. Since then, the Sood lineage has been the chosen one here. One of the most panoramic destinations of the state, with plethora of historical wealth, the whole village of Pragpur is a big tourist site. A must visit place to see one of the earliest civilizations of India though crumbling, giving a glimpse of the glorious past.
