Like many other small townships or villages in the state of Rajasthan, Kumbalgarh too has its life centered around the majestic and massive fort. Most spectacular piece of defensive architecture in the state, Kumbalgarh fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha of the Mewar dynasty. Kumbalgarh fort was one of the most important fortresses of all times and only other guerilla warfare tactics could be used to siege the fort. The fort has huge walls, which protect a complex that was set up to withstand a long siege with its own water sources, fields, granaries and warrior dwellings. The fort has some magnificent temples inside the ramparts dedicated to various gods and goddesses.
