"Padharo Mhare Des"…. Is the traditional welcome of the people from Rajasthan. Welcome to Rajasthan, literally meaning land of Kings. The Kings, the Rajputs who till date are remembered for their chivalry and valour. Ferocious at war and artists at heart, these kings ruled the state for nearly thousand years; winning wars, building massive forts and intricately ornate palaces and patronizing the artists. The Rajputs consider themselves to be the direct descendants of the Indo - Scythians. But the history of Rajasthan goes back to the Harrapan Civilization. The archeological findings in Luni and other parts have proved that man lived here as early as 6000 to 8000 years ago. The Aryans arrived here in 2000 B.C. and mingled with the locals here thus creating a race of warriors. The Maurya dynasty ruled this place for some time though, it were the Rajputs, diversified in to various clans who ruled the state.
The cities of Rajasthan still retain the medieval flavour keeping alive the timeless traditions in their rich art and crafts.
One of the most exploited states of India in tourism sector, Rajasthan is fascinating. Immensely rich in culture, history and natural beauty, Rajasthan is a paradise for tourists. With its capital Pink City, the splendid lake city and the golden city of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan holds a surprise of magnificent beauty at every nook and corner. Rajasthan is a contrast of sorts; with beautiful laid out gardens and lakes with the desert background; while tall Havelis stand with beautiful designs there is scarcity of water in them, but still Rajasthan is a pleasure. It is land synonymous with romance and chivalry.
But Rajasthan is more than just the forts and palaces. There are innumerous ancient Hindu and Jain temples scattered around the state. An exotic state where tradition and royal glory meet in a riot of vibrant colours against the vast backdrop of sand and desert, Rajasthan has an unusual diversity in its entire forms - people, customs, culture, costumes, music, manners, dialects, cuisine and topography. No wonder it is known as the Desert Jewel of India. It is the land of invincible forts, magnificent palaces, rich in music, dance, arts and craft.
The rustic looking but gentle hearted people carry their traditions and pass on to generations, toiling hard for their livelihood and still smiling. The evenings bring in the mystic romance with the exuberant folk dances and music ballads of the Rajsathan's local folk.
From Palaces to forts, from history to tourism form chivalry to romance from the vibrantly dressed local people to the black bucks in the dry jungles and camels and elephants walking on the roads, from miniature paintings to jewellery, from the charming music to rhythmic dance and the exotic spicy cuisine; Rajasthan is sure to beckon you again and again to explore the unexplored.
