Auto Expo was instituted in 1985, jointly by the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (currently Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers - SIAM), and the Automotive Component Manufactures Association of India, in partnership with the then Association of Indian Engineering Industry (currently Confederation of Indian Industry - CII). Today, the Auto Expo is reckoned to be one of the premier Auto Shows in the world and is a part of the global calendar of OICA recognised Auto Shows. For the Indian auto industry, the Auto Expo is a launch pad for new models and a showcase of contemporary as well as future mobility technologies, manufacturing capabilities and the high growth potential that exists in the Indian market for personal and public mobility.
